TASK 2 PROCESS ANALYSIS (Ginamos)
Ginamos
As Filipinos it is our job to share our and preserve our culture and our traditions to not just our own country but to other parts of the world as well. So that people will discover what the Philippines is and they will see the wonders of Filipino cuisine, culture, and tradition. Also by spreading our culture all over the world the more people will know and the longer our culture will last longer due to it being spread.
So we should advertise our food, and culture so that people will gain interest in it and so that people should not be left out.
One of the things you could do which is pretty easy to do and not so time consuming is to spread it through social media sites like facebook, twitter, instagram and even youtube. And also if you have any foreign friends you could also tell them about this and make them share to their other friends or family and introduce them to Filipino culture. And show them interesting food like this one.
And also one of the things you could do is make a blog like this one showcasing the cuisine of the Filipinos and letting the world see it.
Ginamos
This is ginamos it is a Filipino dish. It looks disgusting at first glance like the fish look so white and in my opinion looks a bit like maggots . And instead of making you wanna eat it the look makes you lose your appetite. But for me as I am Filipino it looks fine. Now it may look not so good at first like it may look like worms but the closer you look the more fine it actually is. If you just look at it with a glance it kinda looks disgusting but if you look further into it, it actually looks pretty good. This is a food that you should not judge by its appearance but by it's taste.
Now first off all we know ginamos is fish but what else is mixed in with the fish?
- 1.5 LBS Silver FIsh
- ¾ cup sea salt, divided (half for cleaning and other to ferment )
- 5 cloves garlic,chopped and divided
- 30 grams ginger,finely chopped
- ¾ cup vinegar
The ingredients are not that hard to come by and are relatively cheap.
Though obviously if you want more serving you would add more ingredients
The steps on how to make it is also not that hard but it is a bit time consuming.
- Wash the silver fish and drain excess water. Place silver fish in a medium sized bowl and add half of the salt to clean the fish. Make sure that the fish is well coated with salt by gently mixing the fish.
- Using a strainer, drain excess water and throw water.
- In a small bowl, mix the remaining salt and vinegar until dissolve
- Add the silver fish into the mixture and mix the silver fish until it is all coated with salt and vinegar mixture.
- Drain the fish in a large container and add in the ginger and half of the garlic . Make sure to keep the liquid mixture as shown on the video.
- Transfer fish into a sterilized container and put the remaining garlic on top. Pour the liquid and seal the container.
- Store ginamos in a dark place for 3 weeks
So it is relatively easy to make but it is as I stated before a bit time consuming and I recommend to buy it from local sellers as it can give you the true local ginamos experience.
Ginamos uses a lot of salt and vinegar giving it obviously a salty taste and the vinegar gives it that soury taste. Though obviously people have different tastes and ginamos might drive people away and others will like this dish.
And ginamos is not something you will just eat standalone. Ginamos should be paired with different kinds of food to really show its potential. And you can pair it with different dishes if you think that ginamos is too salty you can pair it up with something to balance it out.
Though obviously due to its salty and large vinegar concentration. It is recommended to not eat too much of this and especially when you are pregnant. As bagoong is very salty, so it may cause your blood pressure to rise and you might retain more water in your body which is not good for you and your baby. And also if you have already high blood pressure you should avoid this or consume only modest amounts.
So whether you like ginamos or not is up to you as taste is subjective and different people have different taste and you should not force something upon to a person if that person does not like it.
