Filipino Pride and Independence

"Gathering of Heroes" is a painting painted by Juan Torres, he is quite new in the artist in the scene and is growing quite steadily and is apparently head and shoulders with the big Filipino artists. The painting depicts people parading in the streets of presumabably the Philippines as it is Philippine themed. The people on the paintins are not just random people that Juan Torres drew but are actual literal heroe of the Philippines as the name of the art work implies. The painting includes Tandang Sora at the middle wearing a traditional Filipiniana dress as usual, Jose Rizal at the far right wearing a western inspired suit as he always does, and presumabably Heneral Luna at the far left. Though there are many much more people in the painting I could not recognize all of  them. The flags they are holding is obvioulsy the Philippine Flag and they wave it high in the air with pride. Most of them also bare a serious face.

The painting overall is quite nice to look at with vibrant colors and dark colours complementing each other quite nicely. The scene the painting is showing is quite inspiring and invigorates my Filipino pride and makes me want to run. The way that the people congregate to celebrate their nationality, freedom, or show love to their country especially if they are your countrymen makes you feel bad for not joining them. Though looking at this picture makes me a bit depressed. By looking at this picture I see plenty of people in the plenty and seeing how we are today makes me sad at the condition of the whole world today as we cannot go out and have fiestas or celebrate our holidays. The state of the world compared to this artwork to say the least is quite obvious and not in the sense that the painting is a depiction of the Philippines in the 18th century but as how much people celebrated in the old days compared to now. As the country is divided due to politics and the rampant dangers of fake news especially about the corona virus.

This painting also gives me hope in someday Filipinos can congregate en masse and not because of hatred of another people or government or violence but as proud Filipinos who wave the flag around and sing praises to the countru. And celebrating the numerous festivities all around the country as we Filipinos are actually known for having numerous festivals to various different regions with various different ways to celebrate. I wish for a better future with people who are proud of who they are and not just change and even ostracize one's culture because their culture is deemed inferior to another one's. I wish for a better future in which one can express one's true identity with no fear and not be prejudiced by others. I wish for a future in which we can hold hands and embrace each others warmth and not be in fear of a virus or anything.

I believe Juanito Torres is a really proud Filipino and one that does not shy away from showing his love for his country and country. As he has drawn numerous drawing that give praise and give hope to the Filipino people and to some extent even give hope to people that are not even Filipinos but feel pride and passion upon seeing his work. I think Juanito Torres will someday be a popular figure and be praised by all and be someone to be looked upon.
